My Vienna vintage walk

As many of you know, one of the reasons why I enjoy Vienna, the Austrian capital, on a daily basis is certainly the fabulous vintage culture including a delicate sense for historical and antique goods.

Recently I have been strolling around one of my favourite streets in Vienna: Gumpendorferstraße, located in the 6th district. The street lies between busy Mariahilfer Straße and Naschmarkt. It was once a nondescript side street, but now shops, café and restaurants flourish here, thanks to the neighboring MuseumsQuartier.

Fräulein Kleidsam, located right at the beginning of Gumpendorferstraße, is a small fancy vintage boutique, existing since 2010 and owned by lovely Ursula. The store offers a variety of vintage styles such as 30s and 40s dresses on the one hand and 70s leather coats, 80s flower blouses and 90s shirts on the other hand. Besides you can find loads of noble jewels and accessories such as Yves Saint Laurent belts, Missoni purses,  Versace scarves and even original hat boxes at Fräulein Kleidsam.

Lichterloh, located just a few minutes away, is one of my favourite vintage furniture stores in Vienna. Since 1990 they have been dealing with Austrian and international design of the 20th century, with a special emphasis on the period from the twenties to the seventies. The huge showrooms allow a generous presentation of the individual pieces such as loads of chairs, tables, lamps, and many other unique furnishings. Well-established design is juxtaposed with products of unknown yet stylish design pieces. Lichterloh also produces its own furniture line, which is presented in the showrooms as well.

Wolfmich, owned by make-up artist and stylist Wolfgang Lindenhofer and actor Michael Pascher, has opened just very recently in the heart of the 6th district. As collectors of high-quality vintage fashion they offer an amazing range of rather unique and eye-catching pieces, also for men. The dense selection includes designer brands such as Versace, Moschino, Balenciaga and Common Sweden. Next to clothing, the shop offers a variety of decoration / small furniture as well as perfumes and accessories.
